The Axis Syllabus

What is the Axis Syllabus?

The Axis Syllabus is a compendium or encyclopedia of information relevant to the training, preparation, and performance of the moving human body.  The Axis Syllabus refers to physics, anatomy, and relevant scientific data on flexibility, strength, alignment, injuries, and movement practices. Teachers of the Axis Syllabus use these references to inform movement choices to explore the what, where, and, how of efficiency and safe risk-taking, and common-sense applications of principles that apply to every-life activities as well, such as climbing, horseback riding, construction work, sports, dance, running, etc.  Those that want to be involved in the Axis Syllabus form an international community through the ASRM (The Axis Syllabus Research Meshwork) a dynamic and interactive forum of teachers, researchers, and students. https://www.axissyllabusforum.org/

Together we will research flexibility, strength, alignment, anatomical attributes and ways of moving that are basically safe and energy-conservative. Kathleen will refer to physics, anatomy, and relevant scientific data from various fields.

Kathleen is inspired to teach this content as part of her studies and practice of:

  • The MELT Method system of working with Fascia (trained in hands and foot treatment in 2012)

  • Buteyko Breath Method (Certified as a Teacher in 2022).

  • Axis Syllabus (certified in 2022)

Kathleen started on her journey of studying functional movement after her dance career left her with numerous chronic injuries. Through a slow process of learning to move functionally, she was able to regain her ability to dance. It is a joy to for her pass on a "user guide to the body" so that others can find their own way to arrive at outcomes that support their lives.

Accessibility:

  •  Kathleen has three teaching locations.  One is her home studio which is up two flights of stairs and therefore is NOT wheelchair accessible. When possible if she offers a class series in her home studio, she also offers the same class series online on a different day and time to increase accessibility.

  • The second location is the Roncesvalles United Church (240 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto) which is wheelchair accessible with a barrier-free entrance and washrooms.

  • The third is Zoom which is accessible to those with a device and internet and tolerance for online learning.

Those with disabilities are welcome and accommodations are offered. Let’s talk about what you may need to attend.  Please contact her if you would like to discuss an accommodation request. info@movingbreathproject.com
